North of Eagle Lake you can find the vast desert of Termo. Termo was established in the late 1800's by the northerly pushing railway from Susanville. The N-C-O Railroad chose the site they called Termo in 1899. They began construction on a very large freight house and other buildings for housing after they chose the site of Termo. Then in 1901 they decided Madeline would be a better site. So they moved the rail line 14 miles over to the town of Madeline. Now Termo sits quietly in the middle of nowhere with a few remains still scattered in the desert.
