Susanville, California

Susanville is the county seat for Lassen county.  The elevation is approximately 4,255 feet.  The annual average snowfall is around 10 inches in the valleys.  The local bus system is Lassen Rural Bus.  Susanville houses a community college, hospital and the outlying prisons provide much of the employment.

In 1848 gold followers started moving west.  Crossing the high sierras via Donner pass was challenging and travelers wanted another way to pass.  Issac Roop built and opened a trading post in a place called Rooptown so travelers could stock up on supplies before trudging the Nobles Immigrant trail.  Rooptown is now better known as Susanville, Roop's fort is just off Main street and is the home to the Museum. 

Nearby recreation includes:  Eagle Lake, Ash Creek Wildlife area, Bizz Johnson National recreation trail, Lassen Nation Forest.
