Probably the most populated of the three communities on the north shore is Spalding Tract. Originally set up for camping sites, the land sits in "lots". Most common is the 30' wide by 100' deep. The county requires four of these adjoining lots for a buildable size, with some areas of Spalding requiring larger sites. There is no waterfront homes in Spalding.
In 1882 Noah Spalding settled on 120 acres and operated a dairy. Some remains of John and Noah Spaldings work are still able to be seen near Spalding. The log cabin along Pine Creek was a cold storage and the other cabin was built as a honeymoon cabin.
Today Spalding boasts a new marina, general store, Veterans Hall and Rv park.
